Texanist

Unruh provided over the course of 9 years, 105 works of art for the Texanist “Fine Advice on Living in Texas” column by David Courtney in Texas Monthly Magazine. Unruh’s one-of-a-kind whimsical art brought all those various predicaments to life on the page. Each illustration featured Li’l Bubba, a man-handed, chicken-footed, big-nosed, sometimes-winged, oft-bedraggled character in leopard-print tights. Li’l Bubba, the Texanist’s muse was the spirit of Jack Unruh. The art, that illustrated Texans’ curiosity with their state has in its own way become part of Texas mythology.
